The Republic of India is a country with a long history, and perhaps never-ending enchantment of culture, art, and spirituality. India occupies a greater part of South Asia and has a coastline of over 7,000 km. Like England who has three names, India is also known with two other names—Bharat and Hindustan. India is the second most populous country in the world after China, and is the seventh largest country by geographical area. It is the biggest democratic country in the world. The most ancient believed language, Sanskrit, originated from India. In the History, India holds a position for its great civilizations and some important trade routes of the world, in the sea.
India is known as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, with more than 1,652 regional and national languages, and people of diverse faith, nature, society, and geographical conditions flourishing in their own world! It is one of the most diversified and varied countries in the world, which offers something to everyone!
India is home to several major rivers, which include the historical Ganga (known as Ganges to the world), Brahmaputra, Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri, and Krishna. India has three archipelagos also—Lakshadweep, which lies off the southwest coast, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands lying to the southeast, and the Sunderbans in the Gangetic Delta in West Bengal State. Climate of the country varies from tropical in the south to more temperate in the north. Some parts of India that lie in the Himalayas have a tundra climate. Extreme hot and chilly weather is faced by the major part of Northern India, but the coastal states remain pleasing throughout the year.
India has a rich, unique, and long cultural heritage, which it has managed to preserve in its established traditions throughout the human history. It is said that whoever came to India, either wanted to took India with itself or wanted to be in India, forever! Music, dance, art, poetry, architecture, science, and almost every aspect of human life has been touched upon by Indian people, though spirituality was always crowned above all! Orientalists and seers of the whole world has always deemed India as the spiritual centre of the world, and no wonder that tourists come here for spiritual enlightenment and advancement, apart from their usual enjoying and frolic filled motives.
India is divided into 28 states, which are further divided into districts. There are 6 Union Territories and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, which completes the total land of India. The most nature-rich and high-peaked mountain range, Himalaya, stretches from Jammu and Kashmir in the north to Arunachal Pradesh in the far East, thus making up most of India's eastern borders with China and other neighbouring countries.
