The French speaking Quebec is very famous amongst the tourists and is a historical and architectural treasure. A truly picturesque province especially during the winter months when the whole of Quebec looks just like a Christmas card and during the autumn months the leaves clad it up in beautiful shades of orange and brown. Some of the more famous cities include Quebec City which is the provincial capital and Montreal. The strongest characteristic of Quebec is it’s cobbled streets and it’s wide open spaces. Quebec is home to a very important river; the St. Lawrence River which is the border between Canada and the USA.
Quebec City is the provincial capital of Quebec and it sits on the St. Lawrence River. It is the only fortified city in North America and is also home to a UNESCO world Heritage Site in the Old Quebec. The most distinct characteristic of this city are the narrow winding cobbled streets, the traditional French cuisine and the horseback carriages which give the city that authentic 18th Century French feel to it.
Some interesting places to visits include the Plains of Abraham where you can visit the old battlements, One of the most predominant landmarks in Quebec City is the Chateau Frontenac which is actually a hotel. It is a beautiful yet dramatic building and overlooks the St. Lawrence River. Once visiting this Chateau do not miss the Terrace Dufferin were you can enjoy the view of Mont St. Anne and the blue Laurentian Hills.
Just a few minutes away from the city you will find the Chute Montmorency which is actually higher the Niagara falls and truly spectacular, definatley worth a visit.
The Bailique Notre-Dame –de-Quebec is a stunning Baroque cathedral which attracts many visitors. It is open for visitations daily till 4.30pm.
Quebec has got it all from culture, history to chocolate! If you are a chocoholic make a trip down to rue Saint-Jean and visit the Choco-Musee Erico were you can view the old and new chocolate making traditions and maybe purchase some of the best brownies, hand made chocolate cookies or hot chocolate that Quebec has to offer.
Quebec City also offers some of the best ski resorts in the world from as little as a 20 minute trip from Quebec City centre, such as Mont- St- Anne which is a venue for many international skiing and snowboarding competitions.
