Nuremberg has justly been described as a “living museum of the history of German civilization”. The Mastersingers and Hans Sachs flourished in the city, and the painter Dürer created his finest masterpieces here. (The house where he spent the last 19 years of his life can still be visited today.)

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is a great favourite of the public, and the city sees itself as Germany’s No. 1 Christmas City. The market is even considered to be the most famous and most well loved Christmas market all over the world. And this reputation is well deserved, because a completely traditional pre-Christmas spirit pervades this ‘little town of wood and cloth’ at the main market square in the heart of the Old Town.
