The “old” Zentralstadion, which opened in 1956, was once the largest stadium in Germany. Building of the new Zentralstadion (capacity of 45,000) started in Nov 2000 and the first football match took place on 7th March 2004.

Leipzig makes a great day-trip from Berlin. It's only two hours by car, but probably the best way to get there is on the train, because this delivers you straight to one of the city's top attractions, its Hauptbahnhof, which is probably the largest in Europe, and which has undergone a magnificent transformation in the past year, becoming a multi-level shopping mall whose stores, because they're in a train-station, are allowed to stay open until 10pm

Leipzig is an interesting German tourist destination, especially for followers of Bach and Goethe.
