From the fortress there is a splendid view of the city's cave quarter, 'Barrio de la Chanca' and the fortified Cathedral. Dating from the 16th century in gothic style with a renaissance facade it was built during an era when the southern Mediterranean was terrorised by the raids of Turkish and North African pirate forces. |
