Legend has it that Seville or Sevilla was originally built by Hercules. It was called Hispalis under the Romans and Isbilya under the Moors. Seville is situated on the banks of the Gualdaquivir and is one of the largest historical centres in Europe. Many mythological figures including Don Juan and Carmen are linked to Seville. Colombus was also known to have left on his discoveries from here. Whilst in Seville, make sure you visit the old city and its wonderful cathedrals and towers. The Cathedral of Seville is the third largest Cathedral in the world. The ‘Torre D’oro’ is a Moorish octagonal tower which is another beautiful landmark. The Old Tobacco factory is a symbolic building in this town, which was made famous in its role in the Carmen opera. It is now used as a university. Since Seville is in the heart of the Andalusian region, you should let yourself go and take life easy just like the Andalusians do. Once here, make sure you taste the beautiful ‘Tapas’ which are typical small Spanish dishes or Paella. These can be enjoyed in one of the many cafes and restaurants this town has to offer.
