Kalmar is one of the oldest cities in the country – once it was even the third largest city in Sweden. History is waiting around each corner - you will find traces of every different historical period – everything from the Stone Age to the period of great power. Take a walk down the cobbled streets in the Old Town and finish with a visit to Kalmar Castle, which has a history dating back 800 years. Today it is a living Renaissance palace with room for both banquets and conferences. At the County Museum you will find the largest treasure of gold coins in Sweden - see it along with all the other findings from the man-of-war Kronan. When the evening comes the fun is not over, now it is just getting started! Kvarnholmen has a seething life in pubs and restaurants and in the summertime we offer entertainment both at Larmtorget and in Stadsparken. One of the abutments of the Öland Bridge is in the middle of the town – so if you are on ”The island of the sun and the winds” you are close to pulsating Kalmar.
