Amsterdam is the country’s capital city and also one of the most visited and frequented cities by youngsters who are after a memorable and fun time. Amsterdam is home to worldwide festivals, famous museums, coffee shops, flower markets and many more. It is a considerably small city when compared to other major European cities, however it is saturated with historical sites and other touristic places of interest as all other cities.
First thing you will notice in Amsterdam is the little traffic in it’s streets thanks to it’s numerous canals. Many locals here prefer to travel through this small city via bicycle or by trams which are very frequent and punctual.
Museums are by far the most popular attractions in Amsterdam and the list is never ending, however the following Museums are amongst the top museums to visit; The Rijksmuseum is one of the most visited museums here, it is also the largest museum in the Netherlands. It is set in a beautiful historical building and hosts the largest art collection in all of the Netherlands amongst which you will find works by Vincent Van Gogh, Jan Vermeer and Rembrandt.
The Van Gogh museum is also worth a visit for all those Van Gogh fans. Here you will witness numerous art works of Van Gogh and will walk through this artist’s life stages and gather a thorough knowledge of his personality and his life.
The Anne Frank House is a personal favourite, it is the house were Anne Frank and a few other people hid during the Nazi times. Here you can see the tiny room where they hid and were Anne wrote her famous journal. The house is divided in the front house and an annex and is bound to get you thinking of the harsh realities of those times.
Coffee shops are a top tourist attraction, they are cosy and colourful and also sell small amounts of cannabis to the public, however, they are under tight rules not to sell cannabis to minors and cannot sell above 5g to any one person.
The Dance valley festival attracts thousands of youngsters from all over the globe. It is a two day festival which occurs in the first weekend of August annually.
