Rotterdam is the second largest municipality in the Netherlands after the capital, Amsterdam by population size, and the largest city in the province of Zuid-Holland or South Holland. The port of Rotterdam is the largest in Europe and was the world's busiest port from 1962 to 2004, until it was overtaken by Shanghai. Rotterdam is situated on the banks of the river Nieuwe Maas, one of the channels in the delta formed by the Rhine and Meuse rivers. The name Rotterdam derives from a dam in the Rotte river.
South Holland is located in the west of the country and situated on the shores of the North Sea. It is heavily industrialized and quite heavily populated. Some of the famous cities of this province include The Hague and Rotterdam which is famously linked to it’s harbour.

| The skyline is a good indicator of how dynamic Rotterdam is. Nearly every month, another new building rises to redefine the cityscape. The dynamic is expressed in more than just adventurous architecture. Every year, the city offers new events, innovative arts and culture, a more extensive range of shops and even better facilities to make business meetings, trade fairs and congresses more pleasant. |
