Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean. A very scenic island which also consists of several other small groups of islands scattered around. It is separated from Italy by the strait of Messina. Sicily is divided into the following provinces; Palermo, Agrigento, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna, Messina, Ragusa, Siracusa and Trapani.
This island is mountainous and one if it’s main feature is its 10,000 feet active volcanic mountain, better known as Mount Etna. It is considered the most actively volcanic mountain in Europe.
Sicily was colonized by the Greeks and Phoenicians in the 8th Century BC who considered Sicily to be their trading link between Africa and the rest of Europe. Subsequently Sicily was acquired by the Romans. Due to these several colonizations, Sicily now hosts several relics and treasures.
