This scattered community has a unique claim to fame; Lewis Carroll, the author of 'Alice in Wonderland', was born here in 1832 and spent the first ten years of his life in this quiet corner of rural Cheshire. The family moved when his father, who was an Anglican priest, took up an appointment in Yorkshire.
