Coimbra is a historic city and also the regional capital of the Beira region. It is home to one of the oldest university of Portugal and the second oldest in Europe. It is nteresting to know that Coimbra was Portugal’s capital city for around 90 years in the 12th Century. Some of the more interesting places to visit in Coimbra are the Cathedrals and churches, all of which are uniquely interesting in style. The Museu Machado de Castro on Rua de Sao Joao is definatley worth a visit. Here you can view astounding sculptures, ceramics, paintings and many more interesting arts.
