| Flores, The Azores Portugal
Lying on the most westerly side of the group of islands Ilha das Flores is 17 kilometers long and 12.5 wide, with a population of 4.500 inhabitants.
The island of Flores, most northerly of the Azores group and sited somewhat remote from it's companions, is literally the island of 'flowers', carpeted with numerous wildflowers and hydrangea clusters among impossibly green hills and whitewashed villages.
Flores is primitive nature gone wild. This is in evidence from the peaks and hills which sweep steeply down towards the coast. From the blue mirrors of its seven lakes which shine like faded jewels out of the enveloping green. From the constant murmur of the slopes towards the sea.
