| Corvo, The Azores Portugal
Located at the most northern point of the group of islands the small Ilha do Corvo is to the north of its nearest island Ilha das Flores. It is 6.5 kilometers long and 4 wide with a population today of only 400. Like its neighbour, this island only began to be inhabited by Portuguese in the 16th Century.
The island is mostly basalt which has resulted in breathtaking high plateaus which drop off steeply to create waterfalls. Flores takes its name from the miles of blue hydrangea hedgerows which bloom between June and September.
