| Monfortinho is a pretty spa town situated right on the Spanish border, about an hour’s drive northeast of Castelo Branco.
The spa’s success is largely due to the enthusiastic and persistent spirit of Dr. José Gardete Martins (1869-1957) who dedicated his life to the development of the therapeutic qualities of the local spring waters.
