| Alentejo, Portugal
Alentejo is located in the south of Portugal and is vastly un-inhabited with a lot of wide open space. There are a lot of places of interest, some of which consist of UNESCO sites and other similar cultural interests.
Alentejo was previously dominated by a variety of other cultures such as the Arabs, Romans, Dolmens and Cromlechs, all of which have left a remarkable remains and have all contributed in the formation of today’s Alentejo.
To the Northern Eastern part of the region we find the towns of Nisa, Marvao, Portalegre, Castelo de Vide and Alter do Chao which altogether make up the Rota dos Castelos. These towns are very picturesque and definatley worth paying a visit to.
The South Western part of Alentejo offers stunning ocean views of the Atlantic Ocean and there are many beautiful beaches for relaxation.
The most popular towns or districts in this region are: Beja, Castelo de Vide, Elvas, Estremoz, Evora which is also the capital of this region, Marvao, Mertola, Monsaraz, Portalegre, Santiago do Cacem, Troia and Vila Vicosa.
