The most famous destination in Cheshire is Roman Chester. With 2,000 years of history, this is one of Europe’s top heritage cities – and it is easy to see why! Chester boasts a complete circuit of walls, sections of which date back to Roman times, as well as a Norman Cathedral.

Chester is located among rich, rolling countryside at the base of a spur of land, which is bordered on either side by the estuaries of the rivers Dee and Mersey. It was these natural advantages that prompted the Romans to build their largest fortification in the country here to deter raids from the Welsh or attacks from the sea.
