Thessaly Travel & Tourism Search
Thessaly is one of the most ancient peripheries in Northern Greece and is physically considered to be the centre of mainland Greece. Thessaly is divided into the following prefectures: Karditsa, Larissa, Magnesia and Trikala.
Geographically, this region consists of a main plain which is encircled by the mountains of Pindus, Othrys, Agrafa and Ossa. The mountains are beautiful and blanketed in greenery. The river of Pineios flows through this mountainous region and ends in the Aegean Sea.
The weather in the mountains is rather continental but tends to drastically change to hot, dry Mediterranean weather on the coast. Thessaly is home to the famous Meteora which are dramatic rock towers situated besides the town of Kalampaka. The cliff tops are home to some beautiful monasteries which attract tourists all year round.
