Rhodes city is the capital of Rhodes Island. It is a strongly fortified city and is abundant in history and beautiful architecture. For those of you who really appreciate architecture Rhodes city should definatley not be missed.
The city of Rhodes is a magnificent and well preserved medieval city. It is considered to be one of the most well kept and untouched medieval settlement in the whole of Europe. The most distinct characteristics of this city are the cobbled narrow alley ways and the arched stone overhead which are very picturesque. Here you will also find architecture dating back to the Knights of St. John. There are also Byzantine churches and a variety of Gothic houses.
There are many cultural events and festivities to attend to in Rhodes city. Most of these occur during the hot summer months such as the Sound and Light show which is happening in the Fort and is much awaited by the locals. The town of Rhodes also organizes a cultural event in the summer which consists of concerts, art exhibitions and many performances.
While visiting Rhodes it is also worth visiting the Palace of the Grandmaster which is a magnificent palace in the medieval city and this Palace houses many important and famous international as well as local exhibitions.
