Rome is obviously the primary tourist destination in the region of Lazio. The magnificent city of Rome boasts a rich history which can be absorbed on many of the great monuments and landmarks. Most of the city’s ruins which date back to the Roman Empire are defiantly worth a visit, these lie in the Roma Antica (Ancient Rome).
The beautiful and characteristic cobbled streets lead to piazzas which are filled with cafes pizzerias and restaurants. One can also enjoy views of breathtaking baroque churches and fountains. The climate is Mediterranean and therefore very pleasant. It can get very hot and humid during the summer months and hence many of the Romans head to the coast. It can get strangely quiet during August when most of the cafes and shops close for a couple of weeks.
Some of the landmarks in Rome include the Colosseum, Fontana di Trevi and the Pantheon which have become a very symbolic landmark of this city. The Sistine Chapel is definatley worth the queues, one can view art works suck as the creation and the Last Judgment by Michelangelo.
