Jharkhand, popularly known as Vananchal - a land mass covered with forests, is a state in eastern India, and was a part of Bihar. It was made into an independent state during the same time as Chattisgarh.
Jharkhand is renowned around the world for its mineral wealth and forestry products. The state is rich with flora and fauna and supports populations of tigers and Indian elephants, which are preserved by the forests in the state. The National Parks and the Zoological Gardens in the state, including Betla National Park, has a rich variety of wild life like tigers, elephants, bisons, sambhars, herds of spotted deer, rabbits, and foxes; and the Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary, with scenic beauties, presents a panorama of the variety treasured by the state. Apart from the natural sites, the state also has many renowned industrial cities such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, Giridih, and Dhanbad.
