Madhya Pradesh is a central Indian state and was the largest state in India before the state of Chhatisgarh was carved out from it. The state comprises several regions, which are distinct both linguistically and culturally, including Malwa, Nimar, and Baghelkhand.
Several cities of the town are renowned for their historic contributions and some are extraordinary for their architecture and scenic beauty. UNESCO declared three sites in the state as World Heritage Sites, namely, the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, and the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka.
The state represents great river basins and the watersheds of a number of rivers including Narmada and Tapti. Water of these rivers made the land agriculturally rich and large vegetation is found in the state. State endowed rich forest diversity and is a reservoir of biodiversity. Bhopal is the capital of the state though Jhansi and Gwalior are also famous for their historical perspectives.
