Shandong, commonly known as Qílu, is a coastal province of the People's Republic of China and is located in the eastern part of the country. However, its name itself represents its location, i.e., Shandong literally means "mountains' east", as it is located in the east of the Taihang Mountains. The climate of Shandong is temperate, with moist summers and dry, cold winters.

Some of the major tourist attractions in Shandong are Laoshan, a scenic area and Daoist centre to the east of Qingdao; Penglai, a town on the north of the Shandong peninsula famous for Daoism; Qingdao, beach resort city on the south of the peninsula; Qingzhou, an ancient trading and administrative center with some famous archaeological discoveries; Tsingtao beer; and Weihai, a former British port city, important since the second Sino-Japanese War. Also a number of world heritage sites are there including Temple and Cemetery of Confucius; and the Kong Family Mansion in Qufu Tai Shan, sacred mountain, in Tai'an.
