Shanxi, a province of the People's Republic of China, and is located in the northern part of the country. The climate of Shanxi is continental monsoon, is rather arid.

A number of tourist destinations are present in Shanxi including The Yungang Grottoes in Datong, a world heritage site consisting 252 caves famous for their collection of 5th and 6th century Buddhist grotto sculptures and reliefs; Mount Wutai, the highest point in Shanxi, a major Buddhist pilgrimage destination, for, known as the residence of the bodhisattva Manjusri, and as a result is also, also has many temples and natural sights; Mount Hengshan, one of the "Five Great Peaks" of China, is a major Taoist site; Yingxian Pagoda, the tallest wooden pagoda in the world, is octogonal with nine levels; and Hukou Waterfall, located in the Yellow River, is the second highest waterfall in China with a height of 50 meters.
