Namur is the capital city of the Wallonia region, a city of charm and one will instantly note the friendliness of the locals. This city is becoming increasingly popular with the tourists. There are some very interesting and cultural things to see here including the Citadel which is now open to the public. The 18th Century cathedral is also worth visiting. It is a remarkable 18th century cathedral and it is entirely dedicated to Saint Aubain.
If you are visiting Namur during Easter, you will be able to attend the famous Beer Festival where you can taste hundreds of Belgian beers and the atmosphere is very pleasant and lively and definatley a good day out.
Another famous event in Namur is the Fight for the Golden Stilt which translates Combat de l’Echasse d’Or. This is held on the third Sunday of September and two teams take part namely; the Melanes and the Avresses. These dress up in medieval costumes and battle on stilts. It is a unique event to attend but definatley fun.
